Overview

At FutureCare the Regional Clinical Director of Wound Services is a key clinical leader responsible for overseeing and standardizing wound care programs across the organization’s portfolio of skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). This role provides expert clinical guidance, ensures regulatory compliance, drives quality improvement initiatives including mitigating and preventing wound development, and supports facility-level wound care teams to optimize resident outcomes, reduce wound-related complications, and minimize hospitalizations

The salary mentioned above reflects the potential base pay range for this role. Bonuses or other incentives (if applicable) are offered separately and paid pursuant to the relevant program schedule. All employment offers will consider such factors as overall experience, job-related qualifications, location, certifications/training, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the subject matter expert on wound prevention, assessment, treatment, and healing, while collaborating closely with the VP of Clinical Services and facility leadership
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a consistent, evidence-based wound care program across all assigned skilled nursing facilities
  • Create and update wound care policies, procedures, protocols, formularies, and algorithms in alignment with current clinical guidelines (e.g., NPIAP, WOCN, AHCA standards)
  • Provide remote and on-site clinical expertise and consultation to facility Wound and Skin Care Coordinators, Directors of Nursing (DONs), and interdisciplinary teams
  • Conduct regular virtual and in-person wound rounds, case reviews, and complex wound consultations
  • Work with the centers’ wound teams in developing individualized treatment plans for high-risk or non-healing wounds
  • Monitor key wound care quality metrics (e.g., pressure injury incidence/prevalence, healing rates, infection rates, hospital readmissions related to wounds)
  • Analyze facility-level data, identify trends and opportunities for improvement, and implement performance improvement plans (QAPI)
  • Track and report Corporate wound care outcomes to the VP of Clinical Services and senior leadership
  • Design and deliver, in conjunction with the education department, comprehensive wound care training programs for nursing staff, including new hire orientation, annual competencies, and ongoing education
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for facility team members and Wound and Skin Care Coordinators
  • Stay current with the latest wound care research, products, and technologies and disseminate best practices
  • Attend either NPIAP or WOCN annually to stay current and update policies and procedures on a regular basis
  • Provide guidance to center wound care teams to ensure all wound care practices comply with federal (CMS), state regulations, and accreditation
  • Participate in mock surveys, support actual regulatory surveys, and assist with developing plans of correction related to wound care deficiencies
  • Maintain thorough documentation and auditing processes to demonstrate compliance
  • Evaluate and recommend wound care products, dressings, and technologies for system-wide standardization to optimize clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness
  • Collaborate with supply chain and clinical operation on formulary decisions and vendor contracts
  • Work closely with the VP of Clinical Services, Regional Clinical Services Managers, Medical Directors, Wound Care medical consultants and facility leadership to align wound care initiatives with overall clinical goals
  • Participate in Corporate clinical committees, risk management, quality meetings, and strategic planning sessions
  • Support and participate in recruitment, onboarding, and retention of wound care staff at the facility level

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current, unrestricted license (multi-state licensure preferred).
  • Certification as a Wound Care Specialist for at least 1 year required (e.g., CWCN, CWOCN, WCC, or equivalent from a recognized body such as WOCNCB)
  • Additional certifications (e.g., ostomy, continence, or hyperbaric) are a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive wound care experience with 1-3 years of that experience in post-acute care or skilled nursing settings
  • At least 2–3 years in a multi-facility or corporate-level wound care leadership/consulting role preferred
  • Demonstrated success in improving wound-related quality metrics and survey outcomes
  • Strong background in staff education, program development, and change management
  • Deep expertise in wound etiology, assessment, prevention, and advanced treatment modalities (including negative pressure wound therapy, cellular/tissue-based products, offloading, etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of CMS regulations, MDS 3.0, RAI process, and pressure injury staging guidelines
  • Proficient in EMR data management, data analysis, and creating actionable reports, dashboards, and presentations using data visualization tools including Microsoft Office Suite (for example, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to travel regularly to facilities with an expectation of being in the field as a matter of routine
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
